Situated on the waterfront near the river Tagus, the new quarter ”Park of the Nations“ was first built in 1998 for the international world exhibition Expo. Many star architects took part in this huge project and gave this quarter a very special atmosphere through stunning modern and daring architecture as well as exotic parks. Most fascinating and not to miss is the Oceanario, Europe´s largest, with a huge variety of fish, birds and mammals in a strikingly designed 2-storey high aquarium. The train station designed by the famous Spanish architect Calatrava is also a must. There is daily a wide range of entertainment venues such as theatre, cinema and concerts. On the beautiful promenade stretching along the river at the waterfront there is an array of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from. The fantastic shopping centre Vasco da Gama is just within walking distance.
