Attractions

Have you planned your stay in Kleena Kleene to explore our fabulous surroundings? There are many hikes and sights in the area. Good fishing is from June 1 through mid September. The Klinaklini River offers good fishing, and nearby One Eye Lake and Big Stick Lake are both good for fishing, boating, canoeing, and even good swimming!
Plan to visit Perkins Peak. Wildflowers there are spectacular around the second week of July. Bivouac.com describes Perkins Peak elevation at 9250 feet. “A mining road in decent 4x4 shape goes right past treeline and the peak is easily approached. The turn off is about halfway west of Tatla Lake, towards Miner Lake. At the last fork on the road above treeline stay left and walk on the road into a lake basin of alpine tundra with the mellow pyramid of Perkins at the head. Views on the top are good - from the Monarch Icecap, Klinaklini Icefield, Pantheon, Waddington, and Niut Ranges. You can also see back forever into the flatness of the Chilcotin plateau.” Devote at least 4 hours to this drive/hike.
The Klinaklini Falls are just 7 km off hwy 20 a relatively easy hike, but devote about 2 hours to this outing. This is bear territory. Be sure to take protection and be “Bear Aware”. Bring clothing for any extreme in weather for while it may be very hot during the day, summer nights can bring a frost.
On the way to Bella Coola is the trailhead for the historic 1793 route of Alexander Mackenzie. The Alexander Mackenzie/Nuxalk-Carrier Grease Trail is one of B.C.'s longest hiking trails (at 450 km / 279 miles)
There are many other hikes and easy trails in the area, but if you are interested in seeing the area from a different perspective, make arrangements in advance of your visit to take in flightseeing tours, horseback riding and extended alpine horseback trips, guided hikes, kayaking, canoeing, etc.
“On your own” activities include bird and wildlife viewing, fishing, swimming, photography, looking for wildflowers, biking, nature walks, strolling along the Klinaklini River, sunrises, sunsets and stargazing, exploring, practicing your rustic cooking skills, reading, board games, relaxing in the hammock with a cat --- or a chicken!

Every summer Tatla Lake hosts a fun community gymkhana open to the public.
There are many annual rodeos in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. Most notably, the Williams Lake Stampede (June). Other popular rodeos take place in Anahim Lake, Riske Creek (July) Nemiah Valley (August), and Bella Coola (June).
Check on the events calendar at www.chilcotinchatter.com for local activities and events taking place in communities from Riske Creek to Bella Coola.
