Description:
(Yah-CHA-nah: a place for learning) -- Yachana Lodge is located along the banks of the Napo River (one of the largest tributaries to the Amazon River), near the tiny community of Mondaña in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest. The lodge was created by the Foundation FUNEDESIN, a non-profit organization dedicated to working with rainforest communities on education, healthcare, income generation and rainforest conservation. 'Yachana' is an indigenous Quichua word that means 'A place for learning', which is an important part of Yachana and FUNEDESIN's philosophy. Yachana Lodge has generated more than 3.5 million dollars over the past decade which have been reinvested in the Foundation's community-based development projects such as the recent opening of the Yachana Technical High School to benefit indigenous and mestizo youth living in the region, the construction of the Mondaña health clinic, the creation of 17 village banks managed by local women, the formation of the Fair Trade chocolate more...
