Although the U.S. and Haiti are separated by a flight of less than two hours, the economic distance between them could hardly be greater. The gap between these neighboring nations mirrors the growing gulf between the privileged and powerless worldwide and testifies to the brokenness and injustice of our world.It is across this great chasm that Beyond Borders works, building understanding and solidarity between the wealthy and the poor. As we do, we discover a surprising truth, that the materially poor are often spiritually and culturally rich while the wealthy are often poor in non-material ways. Together we find new meaning for our lives and the strength to build a world where God's peace and justice reign.To build greater understanding across the global economic divide, Beyond Borders organizes reflective journeys to Haiti for small groups from churches, colleges, and community organizations. Beyond Borders creates opportunities more... for authentic dialogue between these visitors and their Haitian hosts. Groups generally come to Haiti for one to two weeks. At least three days are spent in a rural Haitian community where participants divide into small groups, each with a translator, and stay in the homes of local Haitian families. The experience is often life-changing for participants, which is why we call this Transformational Travel.
