Description:
The tour lasts at least 3 weeks from the point of arrival to Irkutsk. You will explore Baikal for 10 days, which include a 2-day cruise on the Baikal, 1-day trip by retro train on the famous Circum-Baikal railway built by Italian architects more than 100 years ago, recreation on the Baikal’s sacrad island Olkhon. For 5 days you will explore the island on foot, Russian jeep, and horse. You will meet a local shaman who will tell you the history and legend of the island and community. Baikal and its heart Olkhon are undoubtedly one of the places of power of our planet.
You will then go to Buryatia, visit Tunkinskaya valley famous for its pristine nature and hot springs. Stay for the night in a small village at the foot of the mountains, with a Buryat family. There is a small nice Buddhist temple in this village. Talk to a Buddhist hermit of the Russian intelligentsia who fled to this land in the time of the Soviet repressions when all religions were banned. You will travel more... 550 km from Irkutsk to Buryatia by a picturesque mountain road, the biggest part of which runs along the shore of Baikal. Stay one day in the capital of Buryatia, visit the main Buddhist monastery 30 km away from the town. The flight from Buryatia to Mongolia will take just one hour.
In Mongolia, you will spend one day in the capital Ulan-Bator, visit the most interesting museums where you will become familiar with the history of the Mongolian state, visit an ethnic concert, listen to the guttural singing. Then you head for central Mongolia to visit the ancient mountain monasteries, the first capital of Mongolia, Kharkhorin, on which the ruins of the first Tibetan monastery, Erdene-Zuu, was built. You will visit a family of nomads, taste the authentic Mongolian cuisine, learn about the way of life for the shepherds. On our way you stay nights will be spent in yurtas (nomads’ tents). There are flights to several European cities from the Ulan-Bator international airport.
