Description:
Whitewater rafting at Marshyangdi
Rapids: Instant Karma, Twinkie, Adrenaline, and Mama?s Big Butt
Class: IV to V
Marshyangdi, the ?Raging River? in the local dialect is one of the best rivers for whitewater rafting with its continuous torrents and stimulating rapids grading from class IV to V complemented by the stunning views of Manaslu and Annapurnas as the backdrop during your entire trip.
The five days of incessant adventure on Marshyangdi starts with an enchanting one-day trek where you could merge completely with the surroundings traversing your ways through the local village sharing friendly smiles with the villagers and sometimes adoring the beauty of breathtaking mountains, which does not seem enough to our greedy eyes. But no worries, our mornings always start with the dramatic views of these mountains and great scenery where we see how the dawn breaks into beautiful morning changing the vibrant colours and how the more... giant precipices adorn themselves with the gleaming sunrays adding more glory to their being.
We start our super quest from the put-in-point, Ngadi to reach our final destination at Bimalnagar scouting the furious rapids and intense whitewater. Rapids in Marshyangdi are steep, highly technical and consecutive. Since it?s been only a few years that the river is open for commercial rafting purpose, many rapids of Marshyangdi still remain unnamed.
If you are an adventure seeker, looking for some demanding whitewaters, Marshyangdi awaits you with its turbulent flows.
Here you go?.
Day 1 : Kathmandu ? Besisahar ? Khudi:
Our first day starts with a long drive followed by a short hike. We leave Kathmandu very early in the morning as a long drive of eight hours to Besisahar awaits us. Nevertheless, you can always enjoy the drive peeping from your bus window the serene views of Nepali villages, hillside, mountains and beautiful rivers. After reaching Besisahar, we unload our gears and head towards our first day?s camp at Khudi. We arrive right on time to set up camp, choosing the best spot to take in the magnificence of the surrounding Himalayas at sunset.
Day 2 : Khudi ? Ngadi ? Khudi:
Our second day begins with a short trek to reach our put-in-point, Ngadi. It is an easy trek accompanied by the spectacular sights of the local lives and splendid mountain ranges. Negotiating our ways for couple of hours through the narrow hill trails, we arrive at Ngadi. After lunch, we are all set to splash the waters of Marshyangdi with our keen paddles and all geared up inflatable rafts lead by our expert rafting instructors. Our five days of great adventure begins!
Yes, Marshyangdi offers lots of thrill and whole of adventure, right from the first day itself as we encounter many of its famous rapids such as Instant Karma, Twinkie, Adrenaline, and Mama?s Big Butt to name a few. A slight mistake and we are knocked down by the rapid into its powerful spurt. Our first day on the river is quite interesting not only because of the great rapids of Marshyangdi but also because of our meandering to our first?s day camp ? Khudi.
Day 3 : Khudi ? Besisahar:
It seems like the river has swollen up more. Yes, from today, we see more of Marshyangdi?s fast bumping water where we thrive to negotiate our ways through the rising waves and the lush green jungle, mysterious canyons including far-fetched mountains standing high above the forested ridges all witness our surreal mission.
Tackling the intense whitewater for five hours, we stop on a beautiful sandy beach for a relaxing lunch break watching the raging river flow fast and wild with its dancing waves. After lunch we continue our descent to the camping site located below Besisahar, one of the most beautiful and comfortable sandy beaches.
Day 4 : Besisahar ? Bhotewodar:
Comparatively, its a mixture of a relaxing and powerful day. After breakfast we are all sent and already hitting the river. Rafting down the whitewater and enjoying the breathtaking views of the fantastic scenery, we reach Phaliya Sanghu where the whole river is squeezed between vertical walls that rise upto 200 feet to a suspension bridge across the river.
After Phaliya Sanghu the river relaxes for a short section and again it seems like Marshyangdi is back into its being with more wide and open rapids, which are powerful as nowhere. We end our fourth day at Bhotewodar and camp on one of the beautiful riverbanks.
Day 5 : Bhotewodar ? Bimal Nagar:
The river becomes very mellow and goes through a high walled gorge with verdant vegetation swarmed with many species of beautiful birds. Its tranquillity reflects everywhere, which we could experience and only captivate in our minds. But surely, the wonderful memories last forever. Relishing such absorbing moments, we reach our take out point at Bimal Nagar by lunchtime. Really, even after the four days of hair-raising excitement on the wild Marshyangdi, the adventure seems never enough. After lunch, we drive back to Pokhara to relax at the serene and tranquil Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge located on a hilltop surrounded by the breathtaking vistas of glorious Himalayan ranges.
