Formed in 2001, small Mexican business Casa HOY (formerly US nonprofit Por un mejor HOY (“For a better TODAY” in Spanish) offers participatory trips to Mexico that combine community service, sightseeing and gatherings with local artists, activists and students, etc., to provide the responsible traveler with increased contact with the culture and people being visited. HOY's brand of meaningful travel balances volunteer work, cultural immersion and recreational activities to give even short trips greater value in human interaction and cross-cultural experience. HOY hopes to change the way people travel and visit other communities by creating bridges across traditional touristic divides. HOY's ultimate goal is that increased understanding and respect will lead humanity down a more peaceful path.
Responsible Action:
HOY immerses travelers in local community projects and facilitates encounters among visitors and the local population. It is also in the process of developing its own local projects.
