The Vargas Island Inn lodge based sea kayaking tour provides a perfect summer escape, whether a quick getaway or a part of a longer independent vacation. It is ideally suited to those looking for comfort class adventure.
Spend 3 nights at the rustic Vargas Island Inn enjoying creative dinners prepared by your chef / guide. This sea kayaking tour showcases contemporary west coast cuisine with a special food focus on local Island farms, wild BC fish and Vancouver Island wines. Launching from the west coast resort town of Tofino, Vancouver Islands most popular destination famous for long beaches, great fishing, Hot Springs Cove, Canada's surfing capital and summer feeding ground for migrating Gray whales. Learn about the biggest act of civil disobedience in Canada in an effort to protect some of the last remaining intact old growth temperate rainforest. The first nations Nuu-chah-nulth people have lived here in Clayoquot Sound for millennia, with some presently occupied sites more... believed by archeologists to date back 9000 years. This temperate coastal rainforest provides important refuge & habitat for a significant number of endangered & rare species including bald eagles, wolves, deer, black bears, migrating shore birds & many species of salmon on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Evenings are meant for relaxing in front of the fireplace or in the wood fired sauna on the beach tempted by an evening swim in phosphorescence.
3 Day Sea Kayak Trip Itinerary
DAY 1
12:00 am- Our guides greet you in Tofino at our designated meeting place. After safety instruction & paddling techniques from the guides, we navigate our way to Vargas Island for our first night stay. We are greeted by our host Neil Buckle and after a tour of the property we are free to explore or catch up on some reading before dinner. Enjoy a glass of BC wine and watch as your guide prepares an inspired meal of local ingredients like Albacore Tuna or wild BC Salmon. Finish your first day with a wood-fired beach front sauna & evening swim before retiring to your room.
DAY 2
Wake to the aroma of morning coffee in the comfort of the Inn. Discuss the days route plan with the guides over a delicious breakfast. Before setting out, your guide will give an instructional talk about surf launch & landings. Watch for seals & sea lions along the rocky shores and reefs on the outer coast of Vargas Island, as well as rare seabirds. Practice your new skills when arriving on Medallion beach for a pic-nic style lunch. An opportune time for a beach hike, intertidal exploring and photos of the dramatic Pacific coastline. Arriving back at Vargas Island Inn before dinner with time for a refreshing hot cleanse in the beach front shower house. DAY 3
A satisfying breakfast prepares us for a morning paddle to Meares Island. We hike the 'Big Tree Trail' through the giant ancient Cedars, Spruce and Hemlock of the temperate old growth rainforest.
