DAY 1
Our day begins early in the morning with our drive from Kathmandu to reach the put-in-point located 96kms away. With its cascading waves walled with great boulders, challenging and highly technical rapids ready to tingle our spines; Bhote Koshi awaits us for a perfect roller-coaster ride. There, Bhote Koshi waits us to present a rafting trip of a lifetime and at the other hand, the three hours drive also has a bagful of wonders for us. Crossing the busy streets of Kathmandu, we reach Thimi where we notice rather a slow life and eventually we enter the countryside with our first approach at Banepa and then Dhulikhel where we definitely observe the slower pace of life with people busy working in their fields and houses, where the loud horns do not blow off our ear drums rather we experience the placid environment. The great scenery of the paddy fields where we see the leaves swinging and dancing to the tunes of calm breeze, the great Himalayan ranges best viewed from Dhulikhel, the white sandy beaches of impressive rivers, watching the locals some performing rituals, some washing their clothes on the river, fisherman tying their nets and children jumping into the waters enjoying great laps definitely portray different impression but unique experience. Enjoying the great views of the country life and mysterious nature, we arrive at our put-in-point, located just below the dam on the Upper Sun Koshi, 40 kms south of the Tibetan border.
We unload the gears, prepare for rafting, get ready in our rafting suits rubbing some sunscreen lotion ? all set for the day?s adventure. The rapids come continuously and are highly technical, hence, it is very important to listen to your guide and paddle accordingly. The journey on the flowing torrents could thus be a perfect fun-filled adventure. After a series of class III rapids, easy yet so adventurous, we hit on the first class IV rapid popularly known as Gerbil in the Plumbing followed by the technical rapid Frog in a Blender, which makes us so intrepid with our daring action in tackling the churning waves that ledge into a big curling pool. After a long stretch of gutsy ride, which almost seems like riding a giant dragon on the powerful river, we stop for our great recompense, scrumptious and mouth-watering lunch on the riverside.
Certainly, a good meal after a good adventure is such a delight. But hey, its yet not over. More actions down the jet. We gear up again and board into our rafts to face more challenges and more excitement. The river flowing through beautiful narrow canyons with lush green vegetation and tumbling waters steeping from great falls joining the spurting waves of the great Bhote Koshi, channels the ways for more exhilarating rapids making our descent yet more thrilling. What could be more flattering for a keen rafter than to cross the ?Dazed and Confused? rapids successfully and yes with great fun, great adventure. Depending upon our time, we end our journey at one of the take-out points, either near Barabise or Lamo Sangu (Long Bridge) Dam. During the two days trip, we end at Barabise and stay at a resort as there are no good campsites at Bhote Koshi. And during a day?s trip, we drive back to Kathmandu gathering the action-packed memories, which for our friends and families become great stories.
